Peck Slip Hosts Inclusion Workshop

The School Leadership Team has initiated a school-wide discussion, bringing Peck Slip teachers and parents together to think about diversity, identity, and inclusion. This past Tuesday evening was the first in a series of workshops designed to:

  • Think about why inclusion is important
  • Engage in dialogue around the importance of understanding others’ experiences and stories
  • Look at research around identity development and how/when it manifests itself in kids
  • Set the stage for brainstorming ways that our school community can build inclusion in a meaningful, supported, and genuine way

We started the evening by watching a wonderful TED Talk by Writer Chimimanda Adichie, and then broke into discussion groups.  It was a great start to our series, and we look forward to welcoming even more parents to our future meetings! Here is a link to the TED Talk for those who were not able to join, or, for those who would like to see it again.
